Unjust road tax

I am writing to you about an ‘unjust’ road tax that is being thrust upon us.
Recently I have come across decent law-abiding citizens receiving infringement notices in the mail.
Supposedly a photographic detection device recorded them exceeding a 50 km/hr speed limit on country back streets, mostly on weekend afternoons. They are not being stopped by the police but photographed by private contractors in unmarked cars with blackened windows, placed on steep inclines to make sure a car moving under its own weight would be exceeding the 50 km/hr limit.
I could not say whether or not any of these people were exceeding the speed limit, but I just know that they weren’t driving drunk or erratically and they weren’t endangering life.
Some of these drivers have never previously received a speeding ticket, haven’t had an accident and feel ashamed when treated like a common criminal.
I have had 60, 70 and 80-year-old friends, with unblemished records, telling me about being fined in this manner in recent months.
This is revenue raising gone mad, a Sheriff of Nottingham tax. I personally will be sending any infringement notice (unpaid) to the Attorney General with a letter demanding that this blatantly unjust tax be removed and urge every motorist in the State to do the same, if they feel they have received an unjust infringement notice.
I would never support people excessively speeding on our streets as this could cause car accidents, injury and death to innocent drivers, passengers and pedestrians. But when drivers are being financially penalised by the state only to increase revenue we should not stand for it. When money governs our laws it creates corruption.
The local police deserve support as their job becomes increasingly more difficult. They know the difference between a criminal and a person being unjustly punished to raise money for our politicians to continue with their wasteful ways.
I am not a ‘Robin Hood’ but I do believe in fighting for the rights of innocent people and believe that we need to stand up for what is right and speak out against injustice. If I stand alone nothing will change. If everybody stands together justice will prevail.
